MS MegaSwim - 22-23 March 2014

Our 4th MegaSwim at the University of Wollongong pool enjoyed its usual range of weather with the pool needing to be closed for an hour on Saturday evening due to an electrical storm.  Despite that the swimmers seemed to enjoy the challenge and most left with smiles on their faces.  Somewhere between $30,000 - $35,000 is expected to be raised to provide "Go for Gold" scholarships to MS sufferers.  Thanks to Bill Wright and his committee for their organising efforts and the Lions and Lion ladies who made the event possible.  Special thanks to the swimmers for their fantastic efforts. 22 golfers (Lions and friends) set out to enjoy the delights of 3 courses in the Hunter Valley across 3 days - Cypress Lakes, Stonebridge and Hunter Valley.  The rain behaved some of the time.  When it didn't there was always some beer or wine to find to enjoy.  Congratulations to Richie Parsons for winning the inaugural Dave Tanner Memorial Trophy donated by Dave Berry.  (Posted by KRSH 14/8/14)

Melbourne Cup Lunch @ Greg & Sue Pitts - 5 November 2013

The Pitt's verandah was jam packed with punters on the first Tuesday in November.  Activities were so numerous there was a little difficulty in squeezing them all in before the race itself got underway - but we made it!  The day doubled as a fundraiser for the Forever Angels Orphanage in Tanzania and at the end of the day $290 was raised. MS Society Sydney to Wollongong Bike Ride - 3 November 2013

The MS Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride finish line was again in Stuart Park, Wollongong.  For the second year, Figtree Lions operated a beer tent and a sausage sizzle with all proceeds being directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.  This year the location was closer to the finish line and warm weather contributed to increased patronage resulting in a significant increase in profits compared to previous years. Final $ are not yet available but appear to be in the vicinity of $7,500. (Posted by KRSH 12 Nov 13)

Lions Breakfast - Keith & Dianne Horrocks's - 27 October 2013

36 Lions and their ladies struggled out of bed and climbed the mountain pass all the way up to Farmborough Heights by 0900 on a Sunday morning to relax over a leisurely breakfast which morphed into lunch and even early tea for some.  Many of the world's problems were solved and all agreed it was a very pleasant way to spend a day.
