A fundraiser for this wonderful Tanzanian charity was held in the Old Courthouse at Wollongong. Figtree Lions has been supporting this charity for some years, a charity which 




Lions Youth of the Year - Club Final - 15 November 2011

Held once again at the Grange Function Centre, this year the YOTY winner was Daniel McNamara from The Illawarra Grammar School. The Public Speaking winner was Nicholas Gerovasilis from Edmund Rice College. Five contestants competed this year, the others being Jeremy Bogovac and Jessica Pryor from Figtree High School and Isaac Kim from TIGS.

51 people attended - 18 Lions, 15 Lion's Ladies, 5 contestants, 3 school representatives, 3 judges and 7 family and friends of the contestants. The judges this year were Sally Perry, Rebecca Fullford (NAB representative) and John Driscoll.

Transfer Dinner with Minnamurra Lions Club - Jamberoo - 28 February 2012

What was to be a bowling night on Tuesday February 28, turned into a trivia night due to the continuing wet weather. Can you see the brains getting ready to work overtime?

Lions Youth of the Year Region Final - 3 March 2012

Daniel McNamara, our club final winner back in November, has gone on to win the Region final at the Collegians Club Wollongong on Saturday March 3, 2012. Daniel's parents Peter and Jacinta were present to support Daniel as were his brother Eamonn and sister Clare. The other contestants were Alexander Polden from Smiths Hill High School who won the Wollongong Lions club final, Meg Connell from St.Mary's Star of the Sea College who won the Region Public Speaking award as well as the Wollongong Heights Lioness Club final and Ailish Cleary from Holy Spirit College who had won the Corrimal Lions club final. The judges for the Region final were Tanya Bennett, NAB Business Banking Manager, Margaret Fuller OAM, Counsellor and Social Worker and Beryl Wood, retired School Principal. Brain Hicks and his fellow Lions from the Lions Club of Wollongong organised the night.

Daniel will contest the N2 district final at Camden Golf Club, Studley Park or 50 Lodges Road Narellan. on Saturday March 24.

MegaSwim 2012 - 3&4 March 2012

Held on March 3 and 4 at the University of Wollongong pool, another successful fundraising event for the MS Society was held despite the wet weather. Final totals are not yet available but again over $40,000 has been pledged.
