A Night at The Opera - Saturday 23 February 2013, Dapto Leagues Club Sinclair Room
In excess of $28,000 has been raised to support Righteous Pups Australia in their training of Assistance Dogs to support families with children sufferring autism. Local Westfield Figtree businessman Enzo Stranges and his wife Adriana and their sons Michael and Gabriel hope to receive an RPA trained labrador in the near future. Fundraising for RPA came about after Lion Kevin Hartley became aware of the Stranges family situation. Lion Greg Dombkins was planning to run a repeat of a 2011 social event based on A Night at the Opera. Combining the two culminated in 200 people attending Figtree's second Night at the Opera in the Sinclair Room at the Dapto Leagues Club on February 23. With Figtree Lions support, Enzo energetically promoted the fundraising to his many friends, family and colleagues. Proceeds of the ticket sales, a raffle and silent auction and various donations to the cause raised the funds and represented one of the highlight events for Figtree Lions in recent years. Some photos from the night that appeared in the Illawarra Mercury Good Life feature on page 45 of the March 1 edition are shown below. (Posted by Keith Horrocks 3 March 2013). MS Mega Swim - March 2-3, 2013
It will be a couple of weeks before the numbers are finalised but it looks like over $40,000 will be raised for MS Society Go for Gold scholarships as a result of the Wollongong Mega Swim which was conducted at the University of Wollongong Aquatic Centre on March 2 and 3. The weather was not helpful but many smiling faces indicated the event was enjoyed by all. Photos will be posted when they are available.
